The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God (Psalm 9:17).
In the third year of his reign, he [King Ahasuerus] made a feast unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him. And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king (Esther 1:3,7). King Ahasuerus, in the third year of his reign, made a great feast unto all his princes and his servants. The feast went on for sometime and the best vessels of gold were used during this great celebration.
Vashti The Queen
Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus (Esther 1:9). As was the custom of the day, the men and the women kept separate quarters and entertained separately. Queen Vashti was allowed to host a feast for the women. It was wonderful and elegant, I am sure. She was made queen because of King Ahasuerus. All that she had was a result of his generosity. The scripture is clear in declaring the source of the queen's wealth, "in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus."
How Quickly We Forget
King Ahasuerus gave the queen everything that she had. She was made wealthy because of him. It's amazing how quickly we forget where our wealth, health, power, and peace come from.
But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). For in him we live, move, and have our being (Acts 17:28). It is because of God that we exist and are alive. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). God made man. We were created to glorify and serve Him, not vice versa.
Let Us Make Man
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth (Genesis 1:26). And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7).
God delighted in the man that He had made. He would come done in the cool of the day to be with Adam. God rejoiced in the pure relationship that once existed in Eden. Adam, so full of reference for the God who had made him, would be in his place when God came to dine with him. In the cool of the day, they would fellowshiptogether. Then disobedience entered Eden through Eve and everything changed. That pure, holy, blood relationship was destroyed. Man would have to leave the presence of God. No longer would man be able to enjoy the close communion with the God of the universe.
So Much Gained, So Much Lost
So much gained and so much lost. Disobedience entered Eden and all was lost for the first Adam. It would take a second Adam to redeem man; to restore man; to bridge the awful gap created by disobedience. God came down one day looking for the man He had but he wasn't in his place and God went looking for man. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou (Genesis 3:8-9)? Where was the man created so wonderfully and holy by God? Where was the man who once delighted to answering the call of his God?
The King's Call
On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Biztha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king, To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair [good] to look on. But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him (Esther 1:10-12).
How quickly we forget. The King was calling. The King was commanding that the queen make an appearance, yet she refused. All of the king's court was watching. Every eye was fixed on the king. How would he handle this act of disobedience? Vashti would have to be punished for her disobedience. If she had only answered the king's call all would have been well but she was arrogant and disrespectful. She wanted to do what she wanted to do, forgetting that the one who had made her queen was calling. Like Vashti, when we fail to honor God, we lose all.
God is God
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth (Proverbs 3:5-12).
What Shall We Do?
What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law because she hath not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains? And Mehuman answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus. For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not. Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king's princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath (Esther 1:15-18). Queen Vashti, once an example to all those in her province, would now have to be made an example for those who may have wanted to assume Vashti's terrible spirit of disobedience.
When We Fail God
When we fail God, we fail others. We fail our children and loved ones. We fail ourselves. Each time that we chose not to obey God, we cause others to look at our God as being weak. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing (John 15:5). I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:1-2). To obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams (I Samuel 15:22).
I Have Called
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof (Proverbs1:23-30).
Will You Answer?
The King is calling. Don't you hear Him calling you today? Maybe He's calling you away from all disobedience; each and every thing that has hindered you in the past from going into His greatness. Oh, come away. Come away in the safety of the King King Jesus.
Hear Him calling you away unto Himself daily. Feel His need for you in this last and final hour. You are so important to God. He needs you in His will; doing His work. He needs your hands and your eyes to get this great work done. You are important to God.
The hour is much, much later than anyone could ever imagine. Hear the Lord telling you today, "Come to me! Come to me! Separate, separate, separate from self. Separate from everyone who would hinder you in any way and from everything that would hinder you. This is your hour, and it's my great hour for you, but you must respond, not part-time but all the time to my Spirit."
Come To Jesus
Please repeat this simple prayer with me, asking Jesus to cleanse you of all unrighteousness. He is able to restore, create, deliver, and most importantly, save you. He is willing. He is ready. He wants you, dear one. No one has ever loved you like Jesus. He does love you.
Oh, God! I have sinned against you. I am so sorry! I have come home, and I'm going to serve you, Lord, the rest of my life. I do believe. I do believe that you are able to deliver me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I believe that the blood of your Son, Jesus Christ can make me clean and whole. Come on into my heart and help me. Help me, Lord. I trust and believe that through the blood, I can make it. I do believe that I can make it with your help. Oh, Lord, I want your help. Save my soul. Love me, Jesus. I must have your love. Love me, Jesus. I will answer your call to salvation today. Come on into my heart, Jesus! Come in!
