Thirty pieces of silver, they have sold our Lord. In this final hour, those Jesus came to save have practically sold Him out. Those He died for, those who He left heaven for have sold Him out. People, who once were with the Lord, are now selling Him out for this old world. They have sold Him out for sin. They have sold Him out for fame and fortune. They have sold Him out in exchange for the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. They have become friends of the world.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God (James 4:4).
Thirty pieces of silver, they have sold our Lord.
What Will Ye Give Me?
Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted [agreed] with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him (Matthew 26:14-16).
Judas had a problem with money. It was the intent of his heart to betray Jesus. Judas failed completely. He was led by his desire for money, a desire that turned to greed. How unfortunate for Judas. He witnessed first hand the power and truth of Jesus. Yet he chose to sell Him out. This is such a greedy time. There is only so much money that you can acquire. There is only so much that you can use money for.
The Root of All Evil
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted [desire] after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (I Tim. 6:10). Many have sold Jesus out for even less. Some have sold Him out because of not wanting anyone telling them what to do. "It's my life. I will live it anyway that I chose". Some have sold Jesus out by not accepting "thou shalt not". Others in the home have sold him out because not taking a stand for the name of Jesus Christ.
Thirty pieces of silver, they have sold our Lord.
I Know Him Not
Just like Peter, many have warmed their hands at the fire with the enemies of Christ. And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest: And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth. But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew (Mark 14:66-68). For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ (Phil 3:18). So many are running from the divine will of the Lord for their lives.
Power To Cast Out Devils
Many people thought that Judas was full of the devil all the time, but the word of God teaches differently. At one time, Judas had power to cast out devils.
And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him (Matt 10:1-4).
In the beginning, Judas had power to cast out devils. In the beginning, Judas had power to heal the sick and raise the dead. In the beginning, Judas had the reality of Jesus Christ. Judas had a problem with money because he was a thief. Judas fell from grace. In order for him to fall, he had to be in grace. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us (I John 2:19).
Every Time We Fail
Every time we fail to warn people about the judgments of God, we sell out Christ. Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me (Ezekiel 3:17). Every time we comprise our walk, we sell out the Saviour of the whole wide world. Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth (Gal 5:7)? Judas, remember, began to complain to Jesus; he didn't understand why the oil was wasted, or so he thought. Judas was a thief all the time.
Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment. Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein (John 12:3-6). Judas love for money was greater than his love for the Master. When he complained about the oil, he had already failed God. It behooves us to study the life of Judas, to never walk one step, which required his eternal soul.
He That Dipped
Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said (Matthew 26:20-25).
The Lukewarm Will Sell Out
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth (Rev. 3:16). Peter never intended to betray Jesus, but Judas planned it. Peter, we know, denied him out of fear, Judas denied Him for money. Judas determined to betray Jesus.
Judas, like many today, failed to deal with those things that ultimately drove them away from God, things which were unholy and filthy. By not facing "self," many have turned into Judases all over the world, selling out such a great opportunity to serve the true and living God.
Will Ye Also Go Away?
This is the final hour. What will you do with such a wonderful opportunity? An opportunity missed by so many. Will you also turn away, turn away to the idols of this world. Will you also build a golden calf and make it your god?
This is an hour of great discipline and separation. We are either going all the way with God and we are failing Him. No one is sitting still. There is no in between.
The enemy knows that his time is coming to an end. He is taking everyone, who is willing, to the pinnacle to show them great and mighty things. The Bible declares that they are lying wonders. Will ye also go away? The enemy, through the tool of greed, is destroying to many in this final hour. Many have drifted from safety and like Judas, will find no mercy left for them. The Lord will no longer give ear to their cries. My spirit shall not always strive with man (Genesis 6:3).
The enemy is seeking to deceive every one that he can; he is deceiving every day, every day and night. We must be wise to his ways, never to go one inch with him. We must depend upon Jesus for He is our strength and will be our courage. Even as the enemy works through those who claim to love us, we must continue to stand for all that He brought and paid for with His life.
Please repeat this simple prayer with me, asking Jesus to cleanse you of all unrighteousness. He is able to restore, create, deliver, and most importantly, save you. He is willing. He is ready. He wants you, dear one. No one has ever loved you like Jesus. He does love you.
Oh, God! I have sinned against you. I am so sorry! I have come home, and I'm going to serve you, Lord, the rest of my life. I do believe. I do believe that you are able to deliver me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I believe that the blood of your Son, Jesus Christ can make me clean and whole. Come on into my heart and help me. Help me, Lord. I trust and believe that through the blood, I can make it. I do believe that I can make it with your help. Oh, Lord, I want your help. Save my soul. Love me, Jesus. I must have your love. Love me, Jesus. I will answer your call to salvation today. Come on into my heart, Jesus! Come in!
