"And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul" Acts 4:32(a)
Prayer Can Change the Order of Things
JUNE 2004

Greetings!

Always Pray

Luke 18:1 And spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint. Prayer is important in this final hour. Prayer is needed and required to keep the vision of what God requires from your life. Jesus is your example. He always kept in touch with the Father. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone (Matthew 14:23). Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints (Ephesians 6:18).

Sick Unto Death

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live (2 Kings 20:1). The Lord had sent the prophet Isaiah to pronounce Hezekiah’s death. Just imagine how he must have felt. “Hezekiah, you’re going to die. Get ready to meet your maker.”

He Turned His Face to the Wall

Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying, I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore (2,3). After such a message, Hezekiah decided to reason with God. He then turned his face to the wall. He turned his back on everything and everyone and got down to business with God. He knew that the Lord had sent such a message and only the Lord could change it.

He lived his life in such a way that he could plead his cause before the Lord. O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight (3). Because of his righteous living, Hezekiah was able to change the mind of God.

This Prayer Was Urgent

He turned his back on the world. This prayer was urgent. Hezekiah needed to hear from God. This was important. It was a life or death matter. Hezekiah did not want to die. He wanted God to change His mind. God is faithful and wants you to recite His word in His ears. Put me in remembrance (Isaiah 43:26(a)). The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16). Can you reason with God today? Are you in a position to pray until God changes His mind? Can two walk together, except they be agreed (Amos 3:3)?

Turn Again, Tell Hezekiah

And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying, Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord (2 Kings 20:4-5). “Hezekiah, you’re going to live!” Imagine what joy that message brought Hezekiah. He was going to live and not die. A faithful, dedicated and consecrated life moves the heart of God. Turning away from the world will move God for your cause. Hezekiah had something to bargain with: righteous living. He had the truth of God burning in his heart. Can you tell God to check your life? Is your prayer life such that you can ask God to remember you?

I Will Add 15 Years

And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake (2 Kings 20:6). Hezekiah’s earnest prayer pleased God in such a way that God added 15 years to his life. Oh, what a wonderful prayer life Hezekiah had. His prayer to God changed the order of things. “You’re going to live. You’re going to live!”

They Have Their Reward

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly (Matthew 6:5-6).

How’s Your Prayer Life?

How much value do you put on talking to God? Prayer is not meant to be a repetitive speech, filled with vain, empty words but is meant to be a wonderful communication between God and the man, woman, boy, and girl He has made — talking to God. A prayer life that is filled with seeking praise from man is no prayer life at all. Praying for the applause of man is a waste of your time and God’s time. The Lord wants sincerity. He’s seeking to draw closer and closer to you. Your prayer life is very important. God needs to talk to you.

In His Presence

All that you need can be found in the presence of Jesus Christ. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you (James 4:7-8).Tarry in the presence of God. Linger there in your prayer chamber, just you and the Lord. Talk to the Son of God like you would another person because He is a person. Jesus Christ is our elder brother and we should keep the communication line open!

I Will Be Found of You

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found you, saith the Lord (Jeremiah 29:11-14(a)). The Lord is just waiting. He wants to change the order of things in your life. He wants you healthy, happy, and strong but you must go God’s way. The Lord said if you would take time with Him that He would talk to you. He promised, in that prayer time, to direct your steps and deliver you from all sicknesses and diseases. This all takes place in the presence of God.

Meet Ahab

And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it. And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the Lord, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine (I Kings 21:17-19). Ahab was known as the King which caused Israel to sin. He was a very wicked king and God was pronouncing judgment upon him. Elijah went to Ahab to give him, “Thus saith the Lord.”

Hast Thou Found Me?

And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee; because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the Lord. Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin. And of Jezebel also spake the Lord, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat (20-24).

Eaten by Dogs

Ahab had killed Naboth in order to get his vineyard at the stirring of his evil wife, Jezebel. Judgment was given to both. Ahab and his wife would suffer a terrible death because of their unholy lives. Imagine, being eaten by dogs and then having those dogs lick your blood? All because of wickedness. You have to be careful with your life. Keep your prayer life burning on the alter of your soul. Call on God while He is near. Don’t turn your back on God’s calling.

I Will Laugh At Your Calamity

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh (Proverbs 1:24-26). I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me (Jeremiah 35:15).

None Like Ahab

But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the Lord, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up. And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel (25-26). Ahab and his wife were pure evil. Having no fear of God, Ahab didn’t consider the wrath of God. Every deed will be rewarded, good or bad.

He Rent His Clothes

And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly (27). Immediately, upon hearing of the judgment of God against him, Ahab rent his clothes. He knew enough about God to know that God honors a sincere cry. Oh, how merciful are the ways of God. Ahab knew that if there was any way to change this judgment, he would have to walk softly and plead with God for his very life.

Ahab Humbleth Himself

And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house (I Kings 21:28-29). Prayer Can Change The Order of Things. Notice, the mercy of God. Ahab humbleth himself through prayer and fasting. Ahab was calling on the great God of the universe!

How Do You Start Your Day?

The Lord must be the first person you meet in the morning. Meeting the Lord gets you prepared; gets you ready to go forth. While the enemy may attempt to make you feel rushed, you must spend time in prayer. You don’t know the adventures, the struggles, the trials that lie ahead for you but Jesus knows and He is seeking to get you ready for each and every one. But you must spend time with Him. You must value your time with Him over everything else. Time spent with your Lord must be a regular thing.

Spend Time With The Lord

Hear the Lord urging you to tarry in His presence; to linger with Him. Spend time with your Lord, first thing. Dwell and take the time to be with Him. Deliverance of all sicknesses and diseases can occur while in His presence. Deliverance from any burden can occur during this precious, precious time. Take time, together. Plan time each morning with the Lord and prepare to meet the world. Since it was vital for the Son of God to spend time with the Father, it is even more important for you to pray to your heavenly father daily.

Father You Always Hear Me

Pray with the reality that someone is listening. Jesus is right there. He wants to talk to you. He is reaching out to you today. Don’t battle and battle with the enemy. Declare, “Lord in the name of Jesus, I come.” That will clear the air. Have a little talk with Jesus, He’s waiting. Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me (John 11:41).

Please repeat this simple prayer with me, asking Jesus to cleanse you of all unrighteousness. He is able to restore, create, deliver, and most importantly, save you. He is willing. He is ready. He wants you, dear one. No one has ever loved you like Jesus. He does love you.

Oh, God! I have sinned against you. I am so sorry! I have come home, and I’m going to serve you, Lord, the rest of my life. I do believe. I do believe that you are able to deliver me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I believe that the blood of your Son, Jesus Christ can make me clean and whole. Come on into my heart and help me. Help me, Lord. I trust and believe that through the blood, I can make it. I do believe that I can make it with your help. Oh, Lord, I want your help. Save my soul. Love me, Jesus. I must have your love. Love me, Jesus. I will answer your call to salvation today. Come on into my heart, Jesus! Come in!

If you meant that prayer, He has come.

Praise Him, He is Yours!
