Pastor's Corner
"The First Lie"

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. God has made many leaps with the ministry. We are now airing on the television! The name of our weekly television broadcast is “The Light Still Shines.” We air the first three (3) Saturdays of the month on WJYS-62 at 5:00 a.m. The station we selected, WJYS, will reach 4 million households daily. WJYS broadcasts from the top of Sears Tower, and its coverage is second to no other broadcast station. “The Light Still Shines” broadcast will reach as far north as the Wisconsin border, south to Kankakee, and west to Aurora. Also, WJYS coverage reaches into Gary, Hammond, and all of northwest Indiana.

I am starting my second book, Emancipation. I hope that you will “travel” with me as I make another great journey. Just like A Long Way From Home, initial installments of the book will be available in supplemental, bi-monthly newsletters, concluding with a published work! An excerpt from the first installment follows.

“I am Boaz, a free man. I have been traveling throughout Uganda and Rwanda. I speak several languages, including English, Luganda, and Swahili. I’ve traveled all over the world contending for the freedom of my brothers and sisters. I’ve watched them live in fear and die in dread. I’ve seen hundreds come and go. Etched in their faces like carefully sketched cartoon characters, anguish and fear are constant companionsno hope; so many settle for bondage, slavery, and dread. Some once embarked with a fight, a hunger to be free that could not be quenched, but over time they too would settle for slavery and bondage. It hurts to have the reality that all men can be free, but they don’t want to be rescued. I’ve been beaten so badly until I couldn’t see, torn ligaments drenched my almost dead body, but I wouldn’t die. I wouldn’t grant death its request. I had to live. People must know that they too can be emancipated.”

Emancipation, narrated by Boaz, is the story of the awakening of the human soul. Click here to read the first installment in full.

The first lie. Have you ever thought about where all this “hell” began? It started, of course, in Eden. Satan intrigued Eve. Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. (Genesis 3:1-6) The devil knew if he were to be successful, he would, bit by bit, have to get into the minds of Adam and Eve. Over time, the enemy worked and worked and worked. The devil is very organized and he is very patient.

The Bible doesn’t tells us how long or how many times Eve went to the tree of death—the tree which is in the midst of the garden—but what matters is that Eve gave him her attention, a willingness to listen. That's all the enemy needed. It is the same today. If the devil can get your attention, get you to turn away from the word of God, it is very likely that you will fail God in this most crucial hour of your life. Eve was so taken in by the enemy’s description of the fruit. “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.” Eve thought eating of that tree would make her wise. The devil really played on Eve’s desire to be wise; he fed her starving ego.

The first lie, you won’t die. Adam and Eve did die. We read nowhere in the Bible about Adam and Eve making things right with God. Nowhere is it mentioned that they reconciled with the Father. Eve was leeched through her eyes. I believe that God wanted to stress the danger of disobedience; they were told directly not to go to that tree. That first lie caused spiritual death instantaneously. The enemy had to destroy God’s truth before he could take them both over.

God Bless You
